William Klein: 100: Retrospective Exhibition

9 September - 31 October 2026

This exhibition will feature William Klein’s street photography, fashion and portrait work, early abstractions, and later overpainted contact-based images to mark the centenary of his birth.

Moving between New York, Paris and London, the show contrasts the city as a charged theatre of crowds, signage, and confrontation with fashion as performance, where gesture, flash, and movement become graphic line. Early abstract experiments (1950s) reveal Klein’s foundational interest in light, form, and abstraction. The more recent oversized painted contact works, with their multiple frames, reference the movement and narrative in Klein’s celebrated film work.
